Egg noodles can be flavored with many things! One of my favorites is a mix of olive oil, Italian seasonings, garlic and onion powders, and a healthy sprinkle of Parmesan cheese.

You could also go for Asian flavors with some soy sauce and a sprinkle of sesame seeds.

How do you reheat egg noodles?

You can reheat the noodles if they are in a soup or sauce by zapping them in the microwave. If they are plain, you can briefly drop them in some boiling water. If they are in butter or a light sauce, reheat in a skillet on medium heat.

Can you cook them in a crock pot or slow cooker?

If you are cooking soup in your crock pot and want to add egg noodles, it is best to let the soup cook completely, then add the noodles at the end to cook for about 20 minutes or so.

Tools we love

  • End grain cutting board– This is my absolute favorite cutting board and the one that I get the most compliments on. And p.s. I have a lot of cutting boards. It really is absolutely stunning, and knows how to take a beating. We use it every single day!
  • Calphalon everyday pan– This is a 12? two handled pan that you will use pretty much every day. Which, of course is why it’s called an everyday pan. I have this one and the Le Creuset version. I use a whole lot of pots and pans in my line of work (apologies to my husband, the dishwasher!) and these are by far my most frequently used pans.

I actually love and prefer the texture of these noodles when the dough is minimally kneaded, making them a bit thick and chewy. But if you prefer a softer and more elastic texture, you're welcome to knead the dough longer (for up to 10 minutes, if you would like). Don't overcook the noodles.

How do you make egg noodles not mushy? ›

If you're making this to eat later in the day, or you anticipate leftovers, cook the egg noodles in water separately and add them to individual servings. This prevents the noodles soaking up excess broth, which can make them mushy and reduce the amount of broth in your soup.

Can I just crack an egg into my noodles? ›

In a medium bowl, combine the noodles and the seasoning packet with 2 cups of water and microwave on high power until the noodles are cooked, 4 minutes. Stir the noodles and crack the egg on top. Why did my egg noodles turn to mush? ›

With their delicate composition, egg noodles can quickly absorb liquids and become overly soft. Adding them too early in the soup-making process might lead to a soggy, gooey outcome, losing that satisfying bite.

Why are my noodles still hard after cooking? ›

As you get close to the end of your estimated cooking time, taste the pasta. If it is done, it should have a nice al dente bite and taste like pasta. If it is undercooked, it will be too hard and chewy. Overcook it and your noodles will be limp and soggy.

How do you fix tough noodles? ›

All you need to rescue your noodles is a bit of another Italian staple: olive oil. The method is as simple as it gets. Heat the olive oil in a skillet and add your overcooked pasta. Gently sauté over medium heat for a few minutes until the pasta's texture has firmed up.

What happens if you cook egg noodles too long? ›

Noodles should be “al dente” (“to the tooth”) or tender with a slight bite or firmness. Can't I just turn the heat off under the pot? Unfortunately, it's not that easy. The noodles will continue to cook in the hot water and become mushy if you leave it in water for too long.
