Worst hair treatment ever in my life - I had a hair perm and cut a couple of days ago. After treatment, my hair looked like having been blew in the wind without style at all. The even worse part is perm irritated my scalp so badly that multiple itchy red bumps developed on my scalp later of the day. I have my hair perm many times but perm caused such scalp irritation only happened at this "high end" hair salon, which is unacceptable! Based on the past review and my observations, this salon may double book your slot with someone else regardless how much they charge you.

Just left this salon and will never go back. I've been going there for at least 15 years and was treated to the worst service ever. Yes, I understand that my regular stylist left sick and they were trying to fit me in, but if you can't, just say so. The initial stylist, Staci, was fine, although clearly distracted with her dedicated customers. Then she handed me off to Johanna for finishing. Lousy customer service from her. She acted as if I was inconveniencing her and if you could call shampooing resentful, this would be it. I didn't even want a blow dry, but when I asked if she could do a French braid, she looked at her watch and said no. Mind you, I did not see that she had another customer nor was there anyone in the lobby area downstairs. When I left, I told the receptionist to nix the product I was going to buy and left. All this for over $200. Posting this as I sit in another salon waiting for a trim and blow out. This place is just posing as more high end than it actually is. Never again!

Tamara is a magician! I saw her for an eyebrow tint/lamination and eyelash tint/lift. I never thought my eyebrows could ever look like this again after all the damage from waxing for years. I am in actual awe of how amazing they look. I also see Tamara for nano-needling facials and my skin has never been more moisturized. I wake up with the healthiest looking skin. I cannot recommend Tamara enough. I wake up in the morning feeling like I am ready for the red carpet. Go see her so you can look your best!

I went for a consultation to see if they could take hand tied extensions out. Starting with the receptionist I could tell the salon catered to white clients. Her greeting to me was faaaaar different from how she greeted older white clients who came in after me. Stacy looked at my hair for a few minutes while looking completely bewildered. I told her my MALE hairstylist in DC did my extensions and I just wanted to get them taken out in MD to not have to make a trip down to DC just for a removal. She continually referred to him as "she" despite me correcting her numerous times. Obviously not listening to what I was telling her. She asked for Johanna to come and take a look but before Johanna even came she determined she couldn't do anything and I need to try a black salon. She literally whispered the word black. Overall, very unprofessional and weird experience. I ended up being able to take my extensions out by myself.

FAQs

What is a fair tip for a hairdresser? ›

20 percent is the most common tipping percentage in the hair industry. Tipping anywhere from 20 to 25 percent is a great range for anyone who is a salon regular or just received a haircut they love. Tipping properly is a great way to strengthen the relationship with your stylist.

What day is best to go to salon? ›

The best appointment times are ...

Early in the week (like a Tuesday or Wednesday) in either late morning or early afternoon. The stylist isn't tired but is settled into their routine, it's less busy so you'll get more time with the stylist, and it's easier to get a last-minute appointment.

How many times should you go to the hairdresser? ›

The best timeline is anywhere between 1-3 months depending on your hairstyle and how quickly your hair grows. The sweet spot would be about every 6 weeks – so look ahead at your schedule, and reserve your spots with your stylist. This will ensure your hair looks fresh at all times of the month!

How and when to ask questions in a salon? ›

Sit eye-to-eye and use the guest's name. Start with open-ended questions about their lifestyle, daily hair routine, and what they envision for their look. Include questions about their best and worst salon experiences. Listen carefully to ensure you understand their needs and desires.

How much do you tip for a $20 haircut? ›

Remember the golden rule: "You should tip 20% on the entire service cost, not per individual," says Schweitzer. So if your haircut and blow-dry cost $40 total, and your color was $60, your total service cost comes to $100. That means you should tip $20 divided between the colorist and stylist.

Is $5 a good tip for a hairdresser? ›

"Usually it's $5-$10 an hour depending on service," stylist Cescley Cobio tells Parade. If she does a simple dry cut (a haircut without washing or shampooing first), she says that a $5-$10 tip is a great tip.

How often do you actually need a haircut? ›

Both experts agree that you should trim hair every six weeks, at a minimum. When it comes to cutting medium hair, both Polko and De León agree that it'll depend on a few different factors, such as your hair texture and how fast your hair naturally grows.

How much should you tell your hairdresser? ›

Tipping is one way to show appreciation for your hairdresser's time and effort. A 20% tip may be standard, but the percentage can vary. More complex jobs or a stylist that went above and beyond might merit a bigger tip. If service was poor, a little less might be appropriate.

How often should I get a haircut to look good? ›

While there is no set rule as to how often you should cut your hair, there is a generic time frame that hairstylists and salon professionals recommend. General guidelines for cutting hair suggest that you should get a cut every six to eight weeks, however, this timeframe isn't a one-size-fits-all deal.

What not to do before going to salon? ›

Don't Use Too Many Hair Products

Having your hair too clean when you go to the salon is not the best idea. On the other hand, hair with too much oil and products is not safe for hair health. Don't use too many hair products such as styling gels or mousses on the same day you want to get your hair done.

What to tell your hair stylist? ›

Share your visions, wants and needs and don't worry about appearing too high maintenance. It is your hair, so don't settle. And remember that stylists can only work with the information they are given. If you're curious, just ask questions — that's how you educate yourself!

How do I ask for a good haircut? ›
