A motorcyclist is dead following a crash in Kosciusko County Wednesday night.
Charles D. Sanders, 35, Claypool, was pronounced dead on the scene from injuries sustained.
Kosciusko County deputies responded to the single-vehicle crash at 5:15 p.m. near the intersection of Ind. 25 and C.R. 600 West.
Preliminary investigation determined that Sanders was traveling east on Ind. 25 on a 2023 Kawasaki motorcycle and left the roadway for an unknown reason, coming to rest down an embankment on the south side of the road.
The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Burket Fire Department, Lutheran EMS, Parkview Samaritan, Reichert’s & Knepp Wrecker Service, and the Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office.
The crash remains under investigation by the Kosciusko County FACT Team.
VEHICLE CRASH
One man was hospitalized after his car was sideswiped on the bypass early Thursday morning.
Elkhart County deputies report that at 5:25 a.m. Thursday, Conner Simpson, 25, Elkhart, was driving east on U.S. 20 east of U.S. 33 in a 2002 Ford Taurus at a high rate of speed.
Elio Alas Guerra, 58, Elkhart, was also traveling on U.S. 20 in the same direction when Simpson’s vehicle struck his 2010 Honda Civic, causing the Civic to swerve and leave the roadway, drive down an embankment and come to a stop in a field.
Guerra was transported to Elkhart General Hospital for chest and back pain.
CHILD p*rnOGRAPHY ARREST
The Indiana State Police reported Thursday the felony arrest of an Elkhart man who was allegedly in possession of child p*rnography.
Detectives with the Indiana State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force arrested the 28-year-old man after a search of a home in the 3000 block of Birch Drive in Elkhart.
This investigation by the Indiana State Police ICAC Task Force began when a tip was received from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
The man was arrested for 8 counts of Possession of Child p*rnography, a Level 5 Felony, and two counts of Possession of Child p*rnography, a Level 6 Felony. Grosenbacher was transported to the Elkhart County Jail.
The Indiana State Police was assisted by the Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office, Elkhart Police Department, Lagrange Police Department, United States Department of Homeland Security Investigations, and United States Border Patrol.
ARRESTS
- A 17-year-old girl was arrested by Elkhart County deputies at 2:59 a.m. Wednesday on charges of resisting law enforcement, possession of a stolen vehicle, and leaving the scene of an accident after she allegedly crashed a stolen vehicle into a utility pole at C.R. 36 and C.R. 31 and then fed on foot.
- A 40-year-old man was arrested by Elkhart County deputies at 7:44 a.m. Wednesday on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated in the 50000 block of Ind. 19 in Elkhart following a vehicle crash.
AWOL
Donald Reshawn Thomas, 23, Middlebury, failed to return to lawful custody at Work Release, 201 N. Cottage Ave., at 12:02 p.m. June 9 and is considered AWOL.
HIT-AND-RUN
Goshen police responded to a report at 5:48 a.m. Thursday of a traffic accident in the 400 block of West Pike Street where one of the parties left without exchanging information.
FOUND ITEM
Interra Credit Union turned over to Goshen police at 1:43 p.m. Wednesday suspicious items found at the bank at 300 W. Lincoln Ave. The items were entered into evidence for destruction.
THEFT
- A 21-year-old man reported to Goshen police at 2:58 p.m. Wednesday that someone stole his car from the 800 block of South Eighth Street.
- A 57-year-old man reported to Goshen police at 3:06 p.m. Wednesday the theft of money from his vehicle in the 1000 block of Colonial Manor Drive.
- A 43-year-old woman reported to Goshen police at 9:12 p.m. Wednesday that someone stole her purse from the 1000 block of Lantern Lane.
- A woman reported to Goshen police at 9:09 p.m. Wednesday that someone stole a bike from the 900 block of Lynwood Drive.
- A 21-year-old reported to Elkhart County deputies that between midnight and 7:14 a.m. Wednesday someone broke into a vehicle parked in the 22000 block of Pine Arbor Drive in Elkhart.
- A 19-year-old reported to Elkhart County deputies that between midnight and 7:14 a.m. Wednesday someone broke into a vehicle parked in the 22000 block of Stillwater Court in Elkhart.
- A 23-year-old woman reported to Elkhart County deputies that between midnight and 7:14 a.m. Wednesday someone broke into her parked car in the 22000 block of Breakwater Drive in Elkhart.
- A 49-year-old man reported to Elkhart County deputies that between 6:15 p.m. Tuesday and 7 a.m. Wednesday someone cut a security lock and stole scrap copper from Frontier Communications, 24373 C.R. 45 in Elkhart.
- Residents of Overlook Apartments, 58720 Vista Blvd., Elkhart, reported to Elkhart County deputies on June 12 that their vehicles had been broken into and items stolen.
CRIMINAL MISCHIEF
- Bashor Children’s Home, 62226 C.R. 15, Goshen, reported to Elkhart County deputies at 6:59 p.m. June 11 that a known teen damaged a vehicle.
- Elkhart County deputies responded to a report that between midnight and 7:14 a.m. Wednesday someone damaged property in the 22000 block of Stillwater Court in Elkhart.
OFFICERS REPORT
Elkhart County deputies found a white children’s bike covered in stickers at C.R. 11 and C.R. 24 at 6:53 a.m. Wednesday.
FRAUD
A 62-year-old New Paris woman reported to Elkhart County deputies between Dec. 16 and Jan. 12 fraud was committed.
