Students will soon be heading back to class as school districts reopen for the 2024-2025 school year. Those without school-aged children should be aware of when schools reopen in their district and be prepared for school buses on the road and increased traffic around school campuses.
For parents of school-aged children, here is some back to school information – listed in order of the start date of each school district.
The New Summerfield Independent School District opens Monday, Aug. 5, the first among Cherokee County schools to begin the new school year.
The registration portal is open for returning students, who are required to update and sign the forms online by noon Thursday, Aug. 1.
School supply lists can be located on the NSISD website, by going to newsummerfieldisdorg and using the link posted on the home page, and on the New Summerfield ISD Faceook page, posted July 15.
“Meet the Teacher” is slated from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aut. 1. Kona Ice will be on campus during the event.
Alto ISD students start school Wednesday, Aug. 7.
Online registration is currently open for returning students, which must be completed in order to pick up schedules prior to the first day of school. A link to the portal can be located on the Alto ISD website, alto.esc7.net, or Facebook page, posted July 23.
Students who are new to Alto ISD may pick up a registration packet at campus offices.
To locate the appropriate school supply list, visit alto.esc7.net, click on the Our Schools tab and choose the appropriate school. Once directed to the school, choose the Parents tab to locate the school supply link.
Alto High School will host an orientation for parents and students at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, in the cafeteria.
Students can pick up their class schedules or obtain online registration help between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, or between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. Monday, Aug. 5.
A Meet the Teacher event has been slated for 4:30 to 6 p.m. Aug. 5.
The community has an opportunity to “Meet the Jackets” at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9.
Wells ISD begins its school year Thursday, Aug. 8.
Online registration is open and can be completed by visiting the district website, wells.esc7.net, by clicking on the Parents tab and then choosing either the student or new student online enrollment link.
School supply lists are also provided on the district’s website under the "Students" tab.
Meet the Teacher is scheduled from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6. Junior high and high school students must be registered before Aug. 6 in order to receive a schedule during the Meet the Teacher event.
Students in Rusk ISD will begin their year Monday, Aug. 12.
Meet the Teacher for primary, elementary, intermediate and junior high students is set from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8. For those interested in participating, a Rusk ISD Prayer Walk will follow at 6:30 p.m. at the football field.
Seniors may pick up their school schedules from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m Tuesday, July 30. Juniors may obtain their schedules from 1 to 4:30 p.m. the same day. Sophom*ore schedules will be available from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 31.
Students who will be driving themselves to school may purchase a parking permit for $10 when they pick up their schedules. A driver’s license and proof of insurance must be shown.
Freshmen students can pick up their schedules between 8:30 and 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, prior to orientation, set to begin at 10 a.m. Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. with counselors available afterwards for questions regarding schedules.
Jacksonville ISD starts the new year Tuesday, Aug. 13.
Returning students can re-enroll through Skyward Family Access. New students must register online at https://bit.ly/registerjisd.
The 2024-2025 school calendar, school supply lists, dress code and other back-to-school information can be found by clicking the Back to School link on the home page of the district’s website, jisd.org.
An orientation for freshmen students is scheduled from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, in the high school cafeteria.
Students who will be driving themselves to school may purchase a parking permit for $15 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Aug. 8 and 9. Students must present a driver’s license and current proof of insurance to obtain a parking permit. The permits will be sold at the student commons at the high school.
Meet the Teacher for elementary campuses is scheduled from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8. Students are invited to meet their teacher and drop off school supplies.
The start and end times for the school day, by campus, are:
– 7:40 a.m. to 3:05 p.m. for elementary schools, with doors opening at 7:15 a.m.
– 7:25 to 3:05 for Nichols Intermediate, with doors opening at 7:05 a.m.
– 7:40 to 3:26 for Jacksonville Middle School, with doors opening at 7:05 a.m.
– 8 a.m. to 3:50 p.m. for Jacksonville High School, with doors opening at 7:30 a.m.
– 8 a.m. to 3:50 p.m. for Compass/Empowerment, with doors opening at 7:15 a.m.
Parents of elementary students may walk their children to class only on the first two days of school.
The Brook Hill School, Bullard ISD and Troup ISD will begin classes Aug. 14.
The Brook Hill School will host new family orientation at 5:15 p.m. for lower school students and at 6:30 p.m. for middle and upper school students on Tuesday, July 30, and again Monday, Aug. 5. Attendance at orientation is required for all new day families.
Brook Hill will host its Get Guard Ready Celebration Monday, Aug. 12, the school’s Meet the Teacher event. From 5 to 6 p.m., students of the lower school will be able to meet with their teachers, with remaining students meeting from 6 to 7 p.m.
Orientation will be hosted from 12 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, for middle and upper school students. Attendance is required and lunch will be served.
A parent only meeting will be hosted at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, for lower school students.
Bullard ISD has created a Back to School Hub on the district’s website, bullardisd.net, that provides information for the new school year. The hub provides links for enrollment, the district calendar, school supply lists, bell schedules, lunch menus, health services and more.
Students who will be driving to school may pick up a parking packet in the front office of the high school, according to scheduled days. Seniors may pick a spot and pay for their permits from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Monday, July 29. Juniors may obtain parking permits from 8 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, with sophom*ores welcome from 1 to 3 p.m. the same day. Anyone who requires a permit may visit the office from 8 to 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 31.
Meet the Teacher is set for 3 to 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12, on all Bullard ISD campuses. Students must complete the registration process in Skyward to be assigned a class or receive a course schedule during the come-and-go event.
Registration for Troup ISD can be completed online using Skyward Family Access accounts. Returning students may use their existing accounts. New students will need to request an account. To do so, visit the district’s website at troupisd.org and click the Student Enrollment link under the Resources tab.
Meet the Teacher events are scheduled throughout Wednesday, Aug. 14, with the following times for each campus:
– 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.; Troup High School, freshman orientation
– 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.; Troup Elementary
– 5:30-6:45 p.m.; Troup Middle School, sixth grade orientation
The Troup Elementary PTO will have a booth in the P.E. gym during the elementary Meet the Teacher. They will be selling 2024-2025 memberships, Troup Tiger gear and hosting a raffle. Kona Ice will also be on the elementary campus.
